Pfizer Inc: Working together for a healthier world
Founded in 1849, Pfizer is the world's premier biopharmaceutical company taking new approaches to better health. We discover, develop, manufacture and deliver quality, safe and effective prescription medicines to treat and help prevent disease for both people and animals. We also partner with healthcare providers, governments and local communities around the world to expand access to our medicines and to provide better quality health care and health system support. At Pfizer, colleagues in more than 90 countries work every day to help people stay happier and healthier longer and to reduce the human and economic burden of disease worldwide.
Job Focus
The Research Associate will play a critical role in developing state-of-the-art mass spectrometric and proteomics capabilities in the Immunology and Autoimmunity Research division of Pfizer BioTherapeutics located in Cambridge, MA. The successful candidate will be working in a team to prepare samples, run gels, perform protein digestions, operate and maintain mass spectrometric instrumentation, perform data analysis, participate in collaborations, and contribute in project meetings. Expanding functions of our group will include biomarker analysis. Available instrumentation includes an Applied Biosystems QTRAP, Micromass LCT Premiere, and a Thermo LTQ Orbitrap Velos with nanoLC. A wide array of mass spectrometric approaches to interrogate biological targets and pathways will be implemented. These include high sensitivity protein identification, characterization of recombinant and natural proteins, identification of peptide/protein modifications (e.g. phosphorylation), protein quantitation (iTRAQ, TMT, label-free), phosphoenrichment, and hydrogen-deuterium exchange mass spectrometry to probe protein conformation. Please apply for this position via www.pfizer.com/careers/ (or hrsource internally) by searching for job ID # 953524.
Responsibilities
The successful candidate will join an existing mass spectrometry and proteomics group and contribute in areas of sample preparation, instrument maintenance, method development, and data analysis. Also this individual will work with fellow group members to develop and apply new and existing techniques to quantitate proteins using mass spectrometry.
Qualifications
- Experience in biomarker quantitation using SRM/MRM
- Experience in immunoprecipitations
- Experience in hydrogen-exchange (HDX) mass spectrometry
- Experience in biological mass spectrometry and other protein analysis technologies that includes protein digestion, HPLC, and SDS-PAGE gel, LC/MS/MS
- Experience in mass spectrometric and proteomic data analysis including protein database searching
- Capacity for innovative problem solving, multi-tasking, and of evaluating new methodologies
- Excellent written (notebook, reports) and oral presentation skills
Qualifications: A B.S./M.S degree with at least 3 years hands-on experience in biological/chemical techniques and mass spectrometry is required. Excellent communication skills are required for constructive interactions with fellow researchers. Must be able to multitask, work at times with minimal supervision, and be able to work with others in small, multidisciplinary teams. Experience an interest in mass spectrometric instrumentation and willingness to learn new techniques is required. Strong computer skills are necessary.
