The successful candidate will be part of a team working on biomarker discovery and validation projects using targeted and profiling LC-MS based methodologies. Targeted compound classes are proteins and lipids. BG Medicine is in the forefront of conducting large-scale biomarker studies on uniquely valuable clinical sample sets in multiple disease areas. Responsibilities:
- Develops novel assays with MRM technology suitable for proprietary protein and lipid targets
- Operates and maintains QSTAR, QTRAP and other vendors' mass spectrometers to generate quantitative metabolomics and proteomics data for biomarker discovery and validation projects with good understanding of data quality and instrument performance
- Improves the performance of existing quantitative proteomics and metabolomics platforms by LC-MS and sample preparation method development
- Follows BGM quality requirements, develops and documents standard operating procedures (SOPs)
- Writes research reports, maintains high quality documentation of his/her work, and demonstrates ability to expand skills into new technology areas
- Work in teams comprised of both internal and external collaborators to meet targeted milestones in research programs
Requirements:
- MS degree with 5+ year industrial experience in the area of LC-MS/biochemistry/analytical chemistry or PhD in the same area with 2+ years of postdoctoral or relevant industrial experience
- Candidates should have good a strong track record of innovation in the area protein and/or metabolite LC/MS analysis
- Solid skills with data processing and understanding of data quality and instrument performance
- Familiarity with basic MS/MS spectrum interpretation
- Demonstrated ability to conduct organized and well-documented research in regulated lab environment
- Excellent oral and written communication skills to work in interdisciplinary teams
- A Plus:
- Experience with handling clinical specimen
- Experience with laboratory information management systems (LIMS)
- Experience in lab automation
- Experience with working in GLP environment
