Mass Spectrometry Group Leader for Projects in Cardiovascular and Metabolism - Cambridge, MA
Description
The position of Mass Spectrometry Group Leader is available in the Cardiovascular and Metabolism Department, located in Cambridge, MA. The successful candidate will work as a member of an Analytics Unit supporting drug discovery targets in the Cardiovascular and Metabolism portfolio. The candidate will direct an analytical mass spectrometry group with a major focus on lipids and their metabolites, including developing methods for measuring lipids and related species extracted from tissue, plasma and cell cultures. Demonstrated managerial and organizational skills, innovation capabilities, and strong analytical tools in chromatography and mass spectrometry are required. The successful candidate will be expected to interact with scientists from the enzymology and pharmacology areas as part of project teams within Cardiovascular and Metabolism, and also other therapeutic areas and platforms within NIBR.
Responsibilities include;
- design and implementation of methods for analytes of metabolic importance
- recommending analytically appropriate methodologies to the research teams
- development and implementation of methods for the quantitation of analytes, which will serve as biomarkers for therapeutic activity, (d) processing data and summarizing for presentation to teams to support project decisions and
- recommending and implementing follow up strategies
Expertise
Successful candidate will have minimally a PhD degree in the appropriate scientific area, with at least 3-5 years experience of extraction of low molecular weight analytes from plasma and/or tissues and developing LC, MS and/or LC/MS methods to undertake their analysis. Experience with lipids measurement is preferred, but not essential. The candidate will also have a demonstrated history of professional success in a multi-disciplinary project oriented environment.
