ASMS Travel Award

The Greater Boston Mass Spectrometry Discussion Group (GBMSDG) is pleased to announce the 2nd annual GBMSDG student travel awards to the ASMS Conference on Mass Spectrometry and Allied Topics. This year's conference is to be held in Salt Lake City, UT, May 23-27, 2010.It is anticipated that two awards of $1000, payable to the students, will be made to help defray the costs of travel to the ASMS conference.

Eligibility

Applicants must be registered graduate students at a university/college in the greater Boston area, and current members of the GBMSDG. The student's thesis research advisor must also be a member of the GBMSDG . Applicants must submit an abstract directly to the ASMS website. The deadline for ASMS abstract submittal is Feb 5, 2010. Students must have their abstract accepted for presentation by the ASMS conference committee to be eligible for the GBMSDG travel award.

Applications:
Students should send by email:

  1. A copy of the submitted 2010 ASMS abstract on the research they will present
  2. A curriculum vitae
  3. A brief cover letter discussing career plans or related considerations. A letter of recommendation should be sent separately by the student's thesis advisor.

All materials should be sent to Dr. Thomas Trainor, of the GBMSDG executive board via email to awards@gbmsdg.org. The deadline for receipt of these materials is 5:00 PM EST Monday Feb 22, 2010.

The actual review and award selection will be undertaken by an independent awards review committee, separate from the GBMSDG executive board. The award winners will be announced at the April meeting of the GBMSDG.
